Alternatives to Cancelled Training

Due to overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we have made the decision to cancel our spring training courses in both the United States and Sweden.

We are currently looking into alternative options for training and will post updates to our Training page as they become available.

Training Resources

While these are not a substitute for the in-depth training courses, we would like to remind you of some resources we have available:

Video tutorials - Over 40 videos ranging from beginner to more advanced examples.

Educational Package A free educational package which includes a textbook with exercises, computer exercises and solutions, a limited version of Thermo-Calc and several limited databases. While the package is intended to be used in a university setting, it is a good resource for anyone learning to use Thermo-Calc.

Diffusion module (DICTRA) Tutorial This comprehensive tutorial teaches about the role of diffusion in materials and how the Diffusion module (DICTRA) can be applied to materials design and processing. It includes step-by-step instructions on how to use the Diffusion module (DICTRA) and twelve examples demonstrating the applications of the Diffusion module (DICTRA) to materials design and processing.

Thermo-Calc Software Supporting New Professorship at MIT

We are supporting a new professorship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Thermo-Calc Professor of the Practice. The professorship is an opportunity to re-introduce a branch of materials science into the department, namely using computational tools to design and develop new alloys and materials processes. The sponsorship adds to a long list of support that Thermo-Calc Software has given to academia, and we are honoured to be able to contribute to the community in such a significant way.

Thermo-Calc Soon Able to Model the Entire Steelmaking Process

A paper published as part of the TMS Proceedings 11th International Symposium on High Temperature Metallurgical Processing describes how a new model currently being implemented in Thermo-Calc will allow users to model all stages of the steelmaking process, from scrap to fully refined steel. The paper gives a detailed example of how this module can be applied using a real case from a steel plant in Ontario, Canada.
