New European Consortium to Advance Next Generation TiAl Alloys

An ambitious new project is underway to develop the next generation of advanced CALPHAD databases for TiAl alloys, ADVANCE: Sophisticated experiments and optimisation to advance an existing CALPHAD database for next generation TiAl alloys

Thermo-Calc Software joins three other organisations in this project, which consists of an extensive and ambitious experimental program to generate detailed and accurate phase equilibrium data which will then be used in the development of cutting-edge CALPHAD databases for TiAl alloys. At the conclusion of the project, one thermodynamic and one compatible kinetic database for atomic mobility will be available.

ADVANCE is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 820647.

TC-Python Training this August

TC-Python was released only a year ago, but it has already become one of our most popular programs. Many users have requested a training course for this popular new program and we hear you. We have scheduled our first set of training courses for 29-30 August 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden. These dates coincide with EUROMAT, which is in Stockholm the following week.

The course will be composed of two days. The first day is for users who have limited or no experience with Python and will cover the basics of Python as well as setting up the TC-Python environment. On the second day we will teach about TC-Python. The second day is for users who have previous experience in Python and those who attend day one of the course.

Learn more about the course at our TC-Python training page or email us at courses@thermocalc.com if you would like to learn more and reserve your spot.

New Diffusion Tutorial

Thermo-Calc Software recently developed a comprehensive tutorial which teaches about the role of diffusion in materials and how the Diffusion module (DICTRA) can be applied to materials design and processing.

If you work with diffusion in materials or are curious about how Thermo-Calc is applicable to this field, download this new tutorial, which includes:

  • A comprehensive introduction to Diffusion Theory, including when it is important to materials

  • Step-by-step instructions on how to set up and run diffusion simulations in the Diffusion module (DICTRA), from simple one-phase diffusion problems to complex diffusion in dispersed structures

  • Twelve examples demonstrating the applications of the Diffusion module (DICTRA) to materials design and processing

Thermo-Calc Training

Thermo-Calc Software provide introductory training courses for Thermo-Calc, DICTRA and TC-PRISMA in both Stockholm, Sweden, and Pittsburgh, USA, multiple times per year. Beginning this year, we will also offer a TC-Python training course

The May courses are full in the US and almost full in Sweden, so email as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

Click here for information the training courses
.

These courses provide a solid foundation for using the software tools, as well as "hands-on" experience filled with examples, insights and tips based on the years of practical experience of our instructors, which allow attendees to get up and running with the software much more quickly.

Some comments from attendees of our training courses include:

"Very good introductory course with lots of examples that make me confident in doing basic work and provided ideas for more advanced research."

"Very helpful overall. Would recommend to others."

"Overall this week of courses was well worth the time. I feel prepared to get busy with Thermo-Calc and DICTRA and TC-PRISMA. Thank you!"
