Thermo-Calc 2017b is scheduled for release late fall 2017 and includes several significant upgrades:
- New databases: including thermodynamic and kinetic Titanium databases, a Noble Metal Alloys database and a new version of the Aluminium database TCAL5
- Many new features in the Diffusion module (DICTRA) including the ability to set boundary conditions
- Calculations for non-spherical precipitates and other new features in the Precipitation module (TC-PRIMSA)
- Improvements to the Scheil calculator
- 3D plotting for Grid calculations
- Custom contour values
- And more!
Thermo-Calc Software Welcomes John Ågren to the Company
Thermo-Calc Software are excited to announce that Prof. John Ågren has joined the company as a Senior Scientific Adviser.
Prof. Ågren was one of the original developers of Thermo-Calc in the late 1970s and brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience with him. We are thrilled to welcome him into the company he helped found, and we look forward to working together in this new capacity.
Thermo-Calc Presentation Highlighted at EUROMAT 2017
Thermo-Calc Software are giving three presentations this year at EUROMAT 2017, one of which was selected to be a highlighted presentation. Additionally, John Ågren, who recently joined the company, will be giving a plenary talk: Computational modeling and Materials Design.
New extensions for the efficient development of CALPHAD-based ICME-tools: Development of property models for martensitic steels by Dr.-Ing. Ralf Rettig. Our first presentation, which was selected by EUROMAT to be a highlighted presentation, will focus on the new Property Model Development Framework that was released last March in Thermo-Calc 2017a.
A “high entropy” alloy database TCHEA2 and its application in alloy design by Dr. Hai-Lin Chen. Our second presentation discusses our high entropy alloys database, TCHEA2, which was initially released in 2015 and was updated in 2017, adding five new elements, C, N, Re, Ru and Si, to extend it to a 20 element framework.
A new thermodynamic database for Ti-based alloys and TiAl-based materials by Dr. Hai-Lin Chen. Our third presentation discusses the new titanium database that will be released this fall in Thermo-Calc 2017b.
Diffusion Module (DICTRA) and TCNI8 Used in Assessment of Additive Manufacturing
A new publication in the May issue of Acta Materialia uses the Diffusion module (DICTRA) with TCNI8, the Ni-based superalloys database, to investigate how additive manufacturing can improve heat treatment processes in the Ni-based superalloy Inconel 625.
Join our Presentations at STEELSIM 2017
Thermo-Calc Software will be giving two presenations this year at STEELSIM 2017:
Computational Steel Design Made Easy – Toward an Integrated CALPHAD-based Materials Design Platform, by Qing Chen
Application of computational thermodynamics and kinetics to steel development, by Reza Naraghi
The conference will be in Qingdao, China, August 16-18, 2017. Be sure to join our presentations or stop by our booth if you're there.
Customer Satisfaction Survey Results 2017
Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual customer satisfaction survey. We recently concluded our fourth annual survey and are now working to compile the results.
Satisfaction with support increased for the fourth year in a row in all three categories we monitor. We work hard to offer excellent customer support, so we were delighted to see that our users agree that our support is strong and getting better.
A full write up and results of the drawing for a €250 Visa gift card will be released in our fall newsletter.
Thermo-Calc Software provide
introductory training courses
for Thermo-Calc, DICTRA and TC-PRISMA in both Stockholm, Sweden, and Pittsburgh, USA, each year.
These courses provide a solid foundation for using the software tools, as well as "hands-on" experience filled with examples, insights and tips based on the years of practical experience of our instructors, which allow attendees to get up and running with the software much more quickly.
Some comments from attendees of our training courses include:
"Very good introductory course with lots of examples that make me confident in doing basic work and provided ideas for more advanced research."
"Very helpful overall. Would recommend to others."
"Overall this week of courses was well worth the time. I feel prepared to get busy with Thermo-Calc and DICTRA and TC-PRISMA. Thank you!"
Visit our website for a complete list of training courses and information on how to sign up.
*All training is conducted in English.
